This solid sterling silver pair of earrings showcases a Natural Australian Light Opal, engraved with 925. Light Opal, commonly referred to as Crystal or White Opal, is classified by the Opal industry as Natural Opal Type 1, characterized by a translucent and substantially homogeneous chemical composition, free from oxides. Genuine Natural Australian Crystal Opal is a rarity found only in limited quantities in Andamooka, Lightning Ridge, Coober Pedy, and the Queensland Boulder Opal Fields. Composed of hydrated amorphous silica SiO2nH2O arranged in closely packed planes of silicon dioxide molecules, this Opal's clear crystal appearance and high translucency come from its pure hydrated silica SiO2·nH2O composition, free from impurities such as Magnesium or Iron. Although a mineraloid with an internal structure, precious Light Opal displays an ever-changing play of internal colors. Microscopically, precious Opal is comprised of silica spheres arranged in a hexagonal or cubic close-packed lattice, ranging from 150 to 300 nm in diameter.
