Genuine Natural Australian Light Opal is rare and occurs in limited quantity in all Australian Opal fields, with its primary source being from Coober Pedy in South Australia. Featuring a hydrated amorphous form of silica SiO2nH2O comprised of spheres of silicon dioxide molecules arranged in regular, closely packed planes, our Opal is pure hydrated silica SiO2nH2O with elements of Magnesium Oxide present, giving it a white base tone. Precious Australian Light Opal exhibits a variable interplay of internal colors and is a mineraloid possessing an internal structure. At microscopic scales, our precious Opal is composed of silica spheres ranging from 150 to 300 nm in diameter, arranged in a hexagonal or cubic close-packed lattice.
